Prize-winning historian Walter Stahr will once again be the featured speaker at the upcoming meeting of the Inland Empire Civil War Round Table on Wednesday, October 10th at 6:30pm in the Assembly Room of A.K. Smiley Public Library.
Stahr will discuss the life of William Henry Seward, who served as Secretary of War under President Abraham Lincoln, and was the man who purchased Alaska after the Civil War. Prior to his time in the State Department, Seward was an innovative Governor of New York and the senator who famously claimed that slavery was against a “higher law” than the Consitution. Stahr will have copies of his bestselling biography of Seward for sale and signature.
The program is free and open to the public. Registration is requested, but not required. The Lincoln Memorial Shrine is located at 125 W. Vine Street in Redlands. For more information, please contact the Heritage Room at (909)798-7632.
