A.K. Smiley Public Library’s “Southern California in Film” series continues Saturday, October 19th at 2pm in the Contemporary Club with a screening of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Based on the 1954 science fiction novel Body Snatchers by Jack Finney, Invasion of the Body Snatchers takes place in a fictional town of Santa Mira, California during an extraterrestrial invasion where humans are duplicated and replaced by alien pods giving rise to the expression “pod people.” It was selected for preservation by the Library of Congress in 1994 and is considered one of the scariest films of all time.
No admission is charged for film screenings, thanks to the generous contributions of donors to the Library. Registration is requested, but not required. Most films will be shown on the third Saturday of the month, and begin at 2pm in the Contemporary Club, 173 S. Eureka Street.
