In honor of Veterans Day, A.K. Smiley Public Library presents a program on Redlander Sgt. Cruz Coyazo on Wednesday, November 9 at 6:30pm in the Contemporary Club. Presented by Coyazo’s grandnephew Paul Aranda, the program will include family stories, photographs, and insight into how Cruz’s legacy has been commemorated in the 77 years since his death in battle during World War II.
A native of Redlands, Cruz Coyazo joined the war effort in 1944, serving as a tailer gunner in the U.S. Army Air Corps. After receiving a telegram informing them their son was missing in action in February 1945, the Coyazo family remained in the dark about his death for decades. Come and learn the story of how the mystery of his passing was finally uncovered.
This program is free and open to the public. The Contemporary Club is located at 173 S. Eureka Street, directly south of A.K. Smiley Public Library. For more information, please call (909)798-7565 or visit www.akspl.org.
