Smiley LIVE! Matt Coleman

Smiley LIVE! Presents: Matt Coleman
Wednesday, August 6, 6:30 PM
The Contemporary Club, 173 S. Eureka St. Redlands, CA

Singer/songwriter Matt Coleman has been playing in the Redlands and Riverside local music scene for 20+ years. He started hitting the open mics where he eventually met his musical cohorts and brothers to form the toe-tappin’ Hobo Jazz and the groovy ColeSlaw.

At Smiley LIVE!  he will perform originals from his solo album “Grin of Livin,” as well as the songs he has written for both Hobo Jazz and ColeSlaw, and various covers in his own style.

Coleman considers his musical style to be folk, jazz and soul, pulling from peer influence and the musical inspiration of such artists as James Taylor and Louis Armstrong.

“I leave it to people’s interpretation,” he said of classifying his musical genre.

Coleman was raised singing old church songs with his sister. The task made him hate music until he picked up a guitar in high school, and then later started writing music in college.

Coleman took a few classical guitar classes while at Azusa Pacific University, but always considered himself more of a singer/songwriter than a guitarist.

This free public event is part of the Smiley LIVE! concert series. It’s family-friendly, with a Q&A segment where young and old alike can ask the performers questions about their music, their performance, and anything else they may be curious about.
